Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition: Pathfinder Adds Capability

Posted at Tue, Jun 25, 2024 12:00 AM

When the redesigned 2022 Pathfinder first appeared at Dick Smith Nissan of Columbia, it was clear that the previous generation’s curves and rounded appearance were out. The 5th generation brought a much more rugged, hard-edged appearance, with an in-your-face grille, harder edges, and sharper angles along the body. The following year, the newly introduced Rock Creek Edition took everything one step further.

Continuing unchanged for 2024, the Rock Creek Edition slots roughly in the middle of the lineup. From a price standpoint, it fits between the SL 2WD model and its 4WD counterpart. The more rugged appearance of the Rock Creek Edition is the first thing you notice, but let's discuss the functional changes first. It starts with more power from the engine.

Enhancing Capability

From the same 3.5-liter V6 that normally produces 285 @ 6,400 rpm and 259 lb-ft @ 4.800 rpm, the power gets bumped up in the Rock Creek Edition to 295 hp and 270 lb-ft.  The rpm peaks remain unchanged. The 9-speed automatic transmission receives an enhanced cooling system.

The Rock Creek Edition comes standard with Nissan’s Intelligent 4WD, which also includes hill-descent control and the easy-to-use 7-position Drive and Terrain Mode selector, which adjusts throttle response and traction control for several surface conditions and towing. Exclusive to the model is a 0.6-inch lift, which adds a bit more clearance and improves approach, breakover, and departure angles but doesn’t raise the vehicle so much that it stops being family-friendly or requires side steps. Below, the Rock Creek rides on 265/60R18 all-terrain tires, while at the top, you will find a large-diameter tubular-style roof rack with crossbars that not only gives a major overlanding vibe but provides a 220-pound carrying capacity. The Rock Creek is also the only Pathfinder model with a standard 6,000-pound towing capacity and comes with a standard tow hitch and integrated electrical harness.

Looking the Part

Outside, the Rock Creek stands out with blackout-style mesh for the grille and lower front fascia, flanked by standard LED fog lights. The black grille mesh is matched by black badging and black-finish rims with a five-spoke design and simulated beadlock-style bright finish surround.

The theme continues inside, where you will find standard second-row captain’s chairs with a removable center console. The second-row seats match the front with a combination of cloth and faux leather seating surfaces accented with exclusive Rock Creek orange stitching. The orange stitching is applied to the dashboard, door panels, and center console.

Overall, the Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition is an excellent choice for a 4WD Pathfinder with greater capability and versatility while still being a comfortable family hauler. If you are in the market for a 4WD 3-row SUV, it should definitely be on your shopping list, and Dick Smith Nissan of Columbia welcomes you to check out the Rock Creek Edition and experience it for yourself!
